Re. Cheetham.

Letter from unsigned to Herr Schluter, Canton 2nd.

January, 1915.

"A. Richter. Should the Hongkong Government raise ob- -jections to you as hi R's attomey, Cheetham must go to Hongkong and you must work him as far as possible, still I hope that the step may be avoidable. If it is necessary, a despatch (telegram) must be sent to Richter from Canton or Shanghai "Cheetham goes to Hongkong" or something similar. l.t.m. Bf.2/1 to Richter".

Letter F.p.10 unsigned to Richter, 2nd. January, 1915,

in English.

"Power of Attorney for Mr. Schluter". I hope that every- -thing will be alright but should the Hongkong Government object to Mr. Schluter acting as your attorney in consequence of his acting as assistant to the liquidator it will be necessary that you forward a second power of attorney to R.B.& Co. Shanghai in favour of Mr. Humphrey Cheetham tho is at present our piece goods sales- -man at Shanghai and who would have to proceed to Hongkong---

-As Mr. Cheetham does not know much about the Petroleum

business Mr. Schluter would help him as much as possible.

Letter F.p. 16 in English unsigned from Amsterdam, 23rd.

December, 1915,

"My dear Sanders,

Cheetham-

-Even if

Cheetham had gone to Hongkong there would have been technical objections in the way if he had tried to do the oil business with Schluter's assistance or rather under the latter's practical

management.

F. 30 unsigned copy to Schluter, Canton. "H. O. Cheethams contract ends on 31.12.14. Renewal naturally only with one month's

notice, lies in Baur's hands".
